# Upgrades & Downgrades

Easily scale your server resources as your needs change.

## Upgrading Your Server

### When to Upgrade

Consider upgrading if:

* Players experience lag
* Server runs out of RAM
* You're adding more players
* You're adding mods/plugins
* Storage is running low

### How to Upgrade

1. Log into [billing portal](https://client.vexiumhosting.com/dashboard)
2. Go to your server service
3. Click "Upgrade/Downgrade"
4. Select new plan
5. Review price difference
6. Confirm upgrade

### Upgrade Timing

* Upgrades are typically instant
* Server may need a restart
* Prorated billing applies

### Proration

You only pay the difference for the remaining billing period:

Example:
- Current: $3.99/month (15 days remaining)
- Upgrade: $7.99/month
- Pay now: ~$2.00 (prorated difference)
- Next month: $7.99
```

## Downgrading Your Server

### When to Downgrade

Consider downgrading if:

* Fewer players than expected
* Removed mods/plugins
* Lower resource usage

### How to Downgrade

1. Log into [billing portal](https://client.vexiumhosting.com/dashboard)
2. Go to your server service
3. Click "Upgrade/Downgrade"
4. Select smaller plan
5. Review changes
6. Confirm downgrade

### Downgrade Considerations

  **Before downgrading**, ensure your server can run on lower resources:

  * Check current RAM usage
  * Check current storage usage
  * Test with fewer resources if possible

### Credit for Downgrades

* Prorated credit applied to account
* Credit used for future invoices
* No cash refunds for downgrades

### Minecraft Plans

| Plan     | RAM  | Best For      |
| -------- | ---- | ------------- |
| Starter  | 2GB  | 1-5 players   |
| Standard | 4GB  | 5-15 players  |
| Premium  | 6GB  | 15-30 players |
| Ultimate | 8GB+ | 30+ players   |

| Starter  | 4GB  | 1-5 players  |
| Standard | 6GB  | 5-10 players |

## Changing Server Type

### Same Game, Different Software

Example: Vanilla to Paper Minecraft

1. Go to Startup settings
2. Change server type
3. May require reinstall

### Different Game

To switch games:

1. Order new server for the game
2. Cancel old server (optional)
3. Data cannot be transferred between games

## Resource Monitoring

### Check Current Usage

1. Go to server dashboard
2. View resource graphs:
   * CPU usage
   * RAM usage
   * Disk usage

### Signs You Need More Resources

| Issue                | Likely Cause      |
| -------------------- | ----------------- |
| Low TPS/lag          | Need more RAM/CPU |
| Out of memory errors | Need more RAM     |
| Disk full warnings   | Need more storage |
| Slow chunk loading   | Need more RAM     |
