Server Configuration

Customize your VEIN server settings for the best survival experience.

Startup Parameters

Configure these settings in the Startup tab of your Game Panel:

Server PasswordPassword required to join (leave empty for public)

Configuration Files

VEIN server configuration can be found in your server’s file manager. Access these through the File Manager tab in the Game Panel.

Main Configuration

The server configuration file contains settings for:
  • World settings
  • Gameplay modifiers
  • Admin and moderator permissions
  • Server rules
Always stop your server before editing configuration files, then restart for changes to take effect.

Admin Commands

VEIN supports in-game admin commands. To use admin commands:
  1. Ensure your Steam ID is added to the admin list in the server config
  2. Open the in-game console
  3. Enter admin commands

Common Admin Commands

Commands may vary based on VEIN version. Check the official VEIN documentation for the latest command list.

Adding Admins and Moderators

To add administrators to your server:
  1. Stop your server
  2. Open the File Manager
  3. Locate the admin configuration file
  4. Add Steam IDs for players who should have admin access
  5. Save the file
  6. Start your server

Finding Steam IDs

  1. Go to SteamID.io
  2. Enter the player’s Steam profile URL
  3. Copy their Steam64 ID (the long number)

World Settings

Customize the survival experience with world settings:

Performance Optimization

For Better Performance

  • Reduce max players if experiencing lag
  • Limit view distance in server settings
  • Schedule restarts every 12-24 hours to clear memory
  • Monitor RAM usage in the Game Panel

Scheduled Restarts

Set up automatic restarts to maintain performance:
  1. Go to Schedules in the Game Panel
  2. Create a new schedule
  3. Set the time (e.g., every 12 hours)
  4. Add a Power Action → Restart

Backup Your World

Always backup your world before making major configuration changes!

Manual Backup

  1. Stop your server
  2. Go to File Manager
  3. Find and download your world save folder
  4. Store it safely

Automatic Backups

  1. Go to Backups in the Game Panel
  2. Configure automatic backup schedule
  3. Set retention policy

Server Updates

VEIN is in Early Access and receives frequent updates. To update your server:
  1. Stop your server
  2. Go to Settings in the Game Panel
  3. Click Reinstall Server to get the latest version
  4. Start your server
Reinstalling may reset configuration files. Backup your config and world data first!

Whitelist

To create a private server with a whitelist:
  1. Enable whitelist in server configuration
  2. Add allowed Steam IDs to the whitelist file
  3. Only whitelisted players can join
