Connection Issues

Can’t connect to your server? Here’s how to troubleshoot.

Basic Checks

1. Verify Server is Online

  1. Log into game panel
  2. Check server status (Online/Offline)
  3. If offline, start the server
  4. Wait for full startup

2. Verify Server Address

Check your connection details:
  1. Look at top of panel for IP:PORT
  2. Ensure you’re using the correct address
  3. Include the port number
Example: 123.45.67.89:25565

3. Check Your Internet

  • Can you access other websites?
  • Try restarting your router
  • Check if other games work

Common Connection Errors

”Can’t Resolve Hostname”

Cause: DNS issue or wrong address Solution:
  1. Verify IP address is correct
  2. Use IP instead of hostname
  3. Try flushing DNS: ipconfig /flushdns (Windows)

“Connection Refused”

Cause: Server not running or wrong port Solutions:
  1. Verify server is online
  2. Check port number is correct
  3. Wait for server to fully start
  4. Check firewall isn’t blocking

”Connection Timed Out”

Cause: Network issue or server not responding Solutions:
  1. Server may be overloaded - wait and retry
  2. Check server isn’t crashed
  3. Verify correct IP/port
  4. Try from different network

”Outdated Client” or “Outdated Server”

Cause: Version mismatch Solutions:
  1. Match your game version to server version
  2. Or install ViaVersion/Geyser for multi-version support

”Invalid Session” (Minecraft)

Cause: Authentication issue Solutions:
  1. Restart your game
  2. Log out and back into launcher
  3. Check Mojang/Microsoft service status

”Server is Full”

Cause: Max player limit reached Solutions:
  1. Wait for a slot to open
  2. Ask admin to increase max players
  3. Upgrade server plan for more slots

”You Are Banned”

Cause: Account banned from server Solution:
  1. Contact server admin
  2. Request unban
  3. Check ban reason

”Not Whitelisted”

Cause: Whitelist enabled and you’re not on it Solution:
  1. Contact server admin
  2. Request whitelist addition
  3. /whitelist add YourName (admin)

Server Shows Online But Can’t Connect

Check These:

  1. Correct IP and Port - Double-check address
  2. Server fully started - Check console shows ready
  3. Client version - Match server version
  4. Mods/Plugins - May be blocking connections
  5. Firewall - Disable temporarily to test

DDoS Protection

Vexium Hosting includes DDoS protection:
  • May temporarily block connections during attack
  • Usually resolves within minutes
  • Contact support if persists

Frequent Disconnections

”Timed Out” During Gameplay

Causes:
  • Server lag/TPS drop
  • Your internet instability
  • Keep-alive timeout
Solutions:
  1. Check server TPS/performance
  2. Check your internet connection
  3. Reduce server view distance
  4. Optimize server settings

”Internal Server Error”

Cause: Server-side error Solutions:
  1. Check console for errors
  2. Usually mod/plugin related
  3. Identify and fix problematic mod/plugin

”Lost Connection”

Causes:
  • Network interruption
  • Server crash
  • Timeout
Solutions:
  1. Check server is still running
  2. Check your internet
  3. Wait and reconnect

Testing Connectivity

Ping the Server

ping 123.45.67.89
Good: Replies received Bad: Request timed out

Check Port is Open

Use online port checkers like canyouseeme.org
